Knowing that Do Young would not agree to a divorce, Hyun Joo resorts to a hurtful lie to make him give up on her. She has already made up her mind that he would have a brighter future with Da Hye and is prepared to let him go.

Do Young did not really believe Hyun Joo has fallen for some one else when she first mentioned it earlier but to have her repeat this as being the reason she wants a divorce hits him hard. He had to step out for a moment to catch his breath and brace himself for what she is about to reveal.

Hyun Joo had been unwell earlier in the day but since she would be meeting Do Young, she had asked Dr Jang for a strong painkiller instead of heeding the latter’s advice for immediate admission for treatment. He only gave in when she insisted and agreed to be admitted the next day.

Do Young once again tells Hyun Joo he has no intention to divorce her as he reminds her of their promise to be with each other till their dying day. He grabs and holds on to her hand tightly as she tries to pull away.

“I do not love you anymore. It’s not because of Da Hye but ever since I met this person, I no longer want to remain with you. I’m sorry I’ve been lying to you”.
(What strikes me is that she is in fact telling him she is sorry for everything she’s been doing and saying to make him believe her).

Do Young walks away in anguish, his heart broken into a million pieces.

He gives Hyun Joo a last call that evening, hoping that what she has told him is not true.

His heart breaks further as she brutally tells him that she cannot live without the other person who means more to her now than he does.

Hyun Joo’s dad wants her to tell Do Young the truth as he is certain the latter will be there for her. But it is precisely because she does not want to hold him back from realizing his full potential that she has to let him go. She does not want to let him go through the kind of pain watching her die, like how she had watched her mum waste away before her death.
Heartbroken, Do Young sits outside Da Hye’s place. A myriad of emotion seems to course through him as he reflects on what she had previously said to him …. not to ruin his life by running away but to prove his worth in order to succeed.

This is probably the turning point for him, that the only way to go now is forward. He seems to have finally made up his mind.
The way I see it, Do Young has 2 women trying to push him in that direction. A wife who loves him so much that she is willing to let him go for his sake and the other who is opening a path for him. I wonder what Da Hye’s real intention is. I do not like how she is pushing her way in but perhaps this upheaval is what he needs to get out of his comfort zone.

Under JQ’s new contract, Do Young and Choi Jun will be collaborating on the project to combine both the functional and aesthetic elements into their design. Do Young is confident that their different approaches will result in something unique.
Hyun Joo checks in to the hospital as promised, to begin her treatment.
Flashback moments with Do Young when he proposed to her. She doesn’t seem convinced that he wants to marry her because he loves her. He makes a promise that he will always protect her.

Do Young looks for Hyun Joo, unaware that she has been admitted to the hospital. Her dad merely tells him that she is away for a few days.

Her dad wonders if he even knows the reason she wants to divorce him. Though dad knows but has to keep it from him, Do Young is probably thinking it’s because she has someone else.
Knowing that her mum is sick and her parents have filed for divorce must have been distressing for Saet Byeol. She stops in her tracks on seeing Do Young but ignores him when he calls out to her.

Dr Jang takes Hyun Joo out for a meal before her intensive treatment starts the next day. She believes that his determination to save her is because of his promise to his late wife that he will find a cure. She agrees to subject herself to his research but if a cure is not possible for her, he has to make it pain-free for her even if just for one day.
Below are highlights from the next episode 13.
Do Young sees Hyun Joo and Dr Jang in an embrace, but it’s probably not what it seems as they are kneeling on the ground …. she’s on the verge of collapse perhaps? Will Do Young think she is with the man she says she’s in love with?
