Knowing one is about to lose a loved one is painful enough so having to pretend not to know they are dying must be doubly so. Do Young returns home more often, on the pretext that he’s doing it for Saet Byeol’s sake. He gets into a row with Da Hye who’s upset that he is unable to let go of Hyun Joo. This episode gives me the feel of both self-absorbed and selfless love.
Hyun Joo is told it is too late now to undergo the operation. Her doctor tries to comfort her, telling her that one should live life to the fullest no matter how much time one has. I have a feeling he’s giving his blessings for her to be with Dr Jang as he knows the latter is troubled by the memory of his late wife.

He deems it a miracle that she is still alive as the medical results had shown that she should have died a month ago. He cannot say for certain though how much time she might have left.
Hyun Joo is surprised to find Do Young cooking dinner at home. Saet Byeol is of course happy to see her dad and have the family together.

Do Young wants to stay the night but Hyun Joo tells him to go back to Da Hye.

She tells him to live well and be successful, a reminder that he should be with Da Hye now.

Hyun Joo’s dad tries to comfort Do Young, knowing how tough it is for him right now.

Do Young wants to be with Hyun Joo, since she does not have much time left but Da Hye is unhappy that he’s too preoccupied with her. I did not quite get it from the dialogue, perhaps she’s feeling neglected and does not like the thought that Hyun Joo is his priority right now.
I really do not like the way she’s behaving in this scene. Knowing that his wife is dying, do you expect him to simply walk away and not care? Have you forgotten that you are in fact the third party who came between them? If Hyun Joo dies, you will have him all to yourself won’t you? Since you can wait 10 years, is her remaining time with Do Young such a big deal?

Dr Jang tells Hyun Joo to return to the hospital as he would like to try a new drug treatment. He wants to be given another chance to save her, assuring her that he will be treating her strictly as a doctor.

I get the feeling she’s upset he’s now back to being impersonal. Though she agrees to go for the treatment, she does not want him to look her up again. Besides she has come to terms with her mortality and does not want to have any more false hope.

Do Young wants to stay the night but once again, Hyun Joo asks him to leave. He mentions having seen her in Dr Jang’s embrace but she makes no attempt to explain or clear his misunderstanding.

Do Young goes to the hospital to look for Dr Jang. Contrary to his first thought that Do Young had come to find out if he’s the man Hyun Joo had mentioned, Do Young merely wants to talk to him about her condition.

Do Young is certain that Hyun Joo did not ask for a divorce because she had fallen for someone else. But having seen them together that evening, Do Young is certain that Dr Jang has feelings for her. He needs to be sure before he can let her go to this man.
Even though he loves Hyun Joo very much, Do Young knows she had never believed that he does. He can only hope that in her last moments, she will be able to find happiness with this man. He wants Dr Jang to promise him to save her no matter what, even if not as her doctor but as someone who loves her.

Da Hye thinks Hyun Joo is making use of her illness to hold on to Do Young.

Da Hye confesses that her feelings for Do Young had resurfaced after seeing him again and now realizes that she cannot live without him. She wants him with her so badly that in her own words, if Hyun Joo thinks it’s unfair she can send him back to her after 10 years.
Sheesh, I cannot believe she can make such an appalling remark ….. makes my blood boil. Return him after 10 years indeed! So what does that make Do Young to you? Is he some library book you can borrow and return by due date? Is he something that belongs to you simply because you’ve invested so much in him? You know Hyun Joo might drop dead any moment, why be so cruel to tell her you can have him back in 10 years? You think you’re so entitled because you love him so much but is that what love means to you? To have something in your possession at all cost without regard for anyone else? No, you don’t deserve him. Even if Hyun Joo dies, I hope he will not choose to be with you in the end.

As Do Young quietly watches Hyun Joo and Saet Byeol from a distance, he is filled with a deep sadness.
I wonder what Dr Jang had disclosed to Do Young when he said that he knows now the reason Hyun Joo wants to live and why she wants to die. Sigh, another riddle to be revealed.
